Today Bandai Namco has announced it’ll be opening a dedicated virtual reality (VR) facility in Japan, called VR Zone Shinjuku, set to be the biggest of its kind in the country.
Set to open in Shinjuku Tokyo on Friday, 14th July, VR Zone Shinjuku will house over 15 activities including: Dragon Ball VR“Master the Kamehameha”; Evangelion VR“The Throne of Souls”; Ghost in the ShellArise: Stealth Hounds and Mario Kart Arcade GP VR. The latter of which was revealed during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 last week supporting HTC Vive.
Alongside VR Zone Shinjuku’s new IP content will be a wide range of new non-IP VR activities. Visitors will be able to explore fantasy world on a winged bicycle, experience a horror-filled dinosaur survival run and loads more. Additionally, guests will also be able to enjoy a variety of non-VR experiences, such as surviving an expanding giant balloon in a locked cell, loads of original souvenirs to buy, and food and drink in a virtually simulated resort themed dining space.
Yoshiyasu Horiuchi, Executive Officer of the Amusement Business Unit for Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., said in a statement “VR Zone Shinjuku will be the flagship location for the next-generation of entertainment. A place where Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. carries out new challenges, delivers excitement and amazement to visitors from across the globe.”
The company also plans to install a selection of its VR content in over 20 locations worldwide in order to increase the opportunities for a larger audience to enjoy its VR entertainment.
For those interested in going reservations will be available from Friday, 16th June, 12:00pm (JST).
Bandai Namco has been heavily involved in VR for a while now with releases including Summer Lesson, and Project CARS, while upcoming content includes Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and Project CARS 2.
