Go Behind-the-Scenes of Spider-Man: Homecoming VR

One of the year’s most anticipated films is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which sees the wall-crawling hero return to Marvel to join the Marvel Cinematic universe alongside Iron Man and Captain America. Virtual reality (VR) content creators CreateVR made a tie-in VR experience for the film, and with a new video, they explain some of the process of creating that experience.

Intel and CreateVR present a behind-the-scenes video on how the VR experience was created. The video speaks about how Sony Pictures partnered with CreateVR and Intel as Sony Pictures said they needed to find the best in the business for such an important project.

The short video displays some of the features that will be in the Spider-Man: Homecoming VR Experience, such as the ability to use the motion controllers to shoot a web and yank objects and throw them around, even incredibly heavy objects, giving the user a real sense of the strength of Spider-Man.

The creative team spoke of the importance of creating a seamless experience for the user, of being able to go from an alleyway full of nearby objects with many textures and shapes to up on top of a skyscraper viewing the famous New York skyline without any loading screens or quality drops.

The developers praised the Intel-powered workstations they were working with, saying that the days of hitting ‘render’ and needing to go find something else to do while the long rendering process tool place were over with the currently available power of Intel processors.
