Within Premiers ‘Hovering’ an Immersive Music Experience from 79Ancestors

Immersive content and creation company Within has announced a new musical experience available through its app today called Hovering, created by director Conor Grebel and experimental, interdisciplinary label 79Ancestors.

Hovering is an immersive experience inspired by and set to electronic musician Shigeto’s track “Hovering”, featuring surreal and vivid imagery tells the story of life-giving water brought to a dying plane. Rather than creating Hovering purely computer generated visuals, the experience is constructed largely from physical elements digitally-scanned in nature.

This is the first release in a series called Territories – an audiovisual concept album produced by the 79Ancestors label. In a blog posting Anthony Ciannamea of 79Ancestors said: “Territories began as a celebratory call-to-action for musical friends and family to compose soundtracks for “imaginary landscapes.” This laid the foundation for over a year of collaborations amongst a diverse set of musicians, designers, and performers.”

“floating in a dream… not in control of where you are going… focused on the world below you,” is how Shigeto explains the feelings Hovering tries to invoke.

“Conor created stunningly original visual effects by combining both modern digital and traditional analog techniques, often using nature and chemical reactions as his main subject. Much of the work utilized photogrammetry,” Ciannamea adds.

The Within app can be downloaded for iOS and Android for Google Cardboard, or HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, and PlayStation VR head-mounted displays (HMDs).

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Within, reporting back with the latest announcements.
