8,000 San Diego Comic-Con Attendees Entered the World of Blade Runner 2049

Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner 2049 Experience at San Diego’s Comic-Con this weekend transported over 8,000 guests, including some of the cast, into the surreal world of the film ahead of its launch later this year. Presented by Alcon Entertainment and Johnnie Walker, the fan activation began with an Oculus VR experience where fans drove a Spinner through Los Angeles in 2049.

The virtual reality (VR) element of the experience was produced by videogame developer Turtle Rock, most famous for the development of 2K Games’ Evolve and the original principle design behind Valve’s Left 4 Dead series, and was enhanced by 24 synchronised D-Box motion chairs.

Stated Kosove and Johnson, “We could not be more proud of the success of this massive accomplishment. To be able to bring so many fans into the world of Blade Runner 2049 was not an easy feat and we are extremely grateful to our partners Warner Bros., Johnnie Walker, and Oculus who helped make it possible. The road to 2049 is paved with hard work, dedication and enthusiasm! Thank you.”

In addition to the VR presentation, guests entered a neon-lit Los Angeles street scene, which featured iconic landmarks from the first Blade Runner as well as several new and exciting elements from Blade Runner 2049.

Opening on 6th October 2017, in 2D and stereoscopic 3D in select theatres and IMAX, Blade Runner 2049 is a presentation of Alcon Entertainment. There’s currently no word on whether the VR element of the Blade Runner 2049 Experience seen on Oculus Rift will be launched directly to consumers, however an experience for Samsung Gear VR is now available. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with any further VR experiences based on Blade Runner 2049.
