Indie videogame developer Foretell Studios, has been working on a virtual reality (VR) car chase experience called DIRE and now its released a free demo for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive owners.
With a striking comic graphical style, DIRE’s plot revolves around Ember, a single mother in a dying world who needs to stay ahead of a toxic sandstorm, while avoid attacks from her nemesis “Rustborne.” The videogame is more about survival rather than racing, with players having a limited amount of nitro to lose Rustborne whilst navigating the treacherous landscape.
“We took our style inspiration from Frank Miller’s Sin City and combined that with the intensity of a Mad Max car chase,” said Tony Kao, Lead Designer of DIRE in a statement.
DIRE will be released in stages and features a high-intensity metal soundtrack to go along with the raphic novel visual style.
The videogame was featured in the Playcrafting Showcase at the 2017 Five Points Festival in New York City, nominated for a ’16 BIT Award in New York City and was featured in the Intel University 2016 Games Showcase.
Oculus Rift and HTC Vive owners can download the demo here for free. There’s an option to support Foretell Studios with a contribution to development if you wish, ranging from $1 USD up to $10.
