Learn What To Do when an Earthquake Hits With Earthquake Simulator VR

Simulations using virtual reality (VR) to recreate emergency situations have been used for professionals such as trauma surgeons before, but there have been few VR experiences that use the public safety aspect of providing VR users with information on what to do in a disaster. Earthquake Simulator VR offers exactly that experience.

The experience of Earthquake Simulator VR was developed by Lindero Edutertainment, and allows users to find out what it is like to be in the middle of a violent quake. The physics-based simulations gives users the sensation of the room being thrown around, along with a subsequent house fire that can be a frequent consequence of an earthquake. The simulation allows users to learn the correct steps to take to stand the best chance of surviving such catastrophic events.

The simulation is not just limited to the event itself, however. The simulation also provides details on how to prepare an emergency kit that can be used in the event of an emergency, along with teaching valuable survival techniques. The developers have expressed with hope that families will use Earthquake Simulator VR to learn about the best way to survive disaster together.

Earthquake Simulator VR will be available from 3rd July, 2017 for the HTC Vive. The experience is designed for room-scale, so requires a play space of at least 2m by 1.5m for optimal play. Further information available on the Steam page.

Previously VR has been used in New Zealand to expose the dangers of house fires and show how rapidly they can spread as part of an effort by the New Zealand Fire Service to spread awareness of the need to have an evacuation plan. Earthquake Simulator VR fills the same niche.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Earthquake Simulator VR and other HTC Vive titles as it becomes available.
