PLAY Expo Blackpool is returning to the seaside town of Blackpool in the North of England for the sixth consecutive year. Previous events have seen success, and the organisers are keen to ensure that this year’s event is the biggest yet. As such, virtual reality (VR) is set to get a featured role at the event, alongside the guest talks and presentations also planned.
PLAY Expo UK mostly focusses on the retro videogaming scene, which this year takes on a new significance with the announcement of the SNES Mini Classic and the launch of the SEGA Forever mobile app. However, the event is not solely located in the past, as the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and even Microsoft’s HoloLens will all be available for visitors to try. In the case of the HoloLens, the event may be many attendees only chance at getting their hands on Microsoft’s expensive mixed reality headset.
There are lots of videogaming available as the event has 80 original arcade cabinets available, including two large hydraulic cabinets from SEGA. There are also consoles to play, featuring games from the dawn of gaming with PONG to modern PlayStation 4 titles. There will also be tournaments and interactive challenges such as 4D Escape Games.
The event is also boasting of guests who are well-known to retro videogaming fans, with names such as Ocean Software director Gary Bracey, Founder of System 3 Mark Cale and former UK Managing director of Commodore UK David Pleasance.
It has not yet been confirmed which titles and experiences will be available for the VR platforms at PLAY Expo Blackpool. The event is due to take place on 15th-16th July, 2017 at the Norcalympia Exhibition Centre in Blackpool, UK. Further information can be found on the PLAY Expo Blackpool website.
VRFocus will bring you further news on PLAY Expo Blackpool’s VR offerings as it becomes available.
