Disney announced Star Wars: Jedi Challenges at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA today, and revealed it was partnering with Lenovo and Lucasfilm to create a new consumer AR headset.
Not many details were given about the hardware itself, but we did learn you download apps onto your phone then lock it into the headset, similar to Gear VR, although Disney promises an AR experience.
Disney was also rather tight-lipped on the game itself, but showed a brief teaser as well as footage tha included a real-time ground battle with troops and AT-ATs, lightsaber training complete with a motion controller shaped like a lightsaber handle and holochess. Pro tip: let the Wookiee win.
There’s not much more information at the official Star Wars: Jedi Challenges website, but there is an option to sign up for more info on the game.
While no specific release date for the game or the Lenovo headset was revealed, the teaser trailer does end with a “coming soon” message.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
