VR Comes to Kew Gardens with Alchemy VR

The virtual reality (VR) arm of Atlantic Productions, Alchemy VR have had success with producing non-fiction VR experiences, including David Attenborough’s First Life and Space Descent with Tim Peake. The company has now unveiled another upcoming experience that will be hosted by the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.

The new VR experience is titled View from a Giant Redwood and follows head arborist Tony Kirkwood as he scales the branches of one of the tallest trees in the expansive Kew Gardens, a 150 year old Giant Redwood, in order to check if the enormous tree is still in good health. The experience will offer views from the top of the giant tree across Kew.

Gina Koutsika, Head of Visitor Programmes, Events and Exhibitions said, “We are very excited to work with Atlantic Productions on Kew’s very first virtual reality experience. Never before have we been able to take visitors climbing with our arborists. Bringing the Gardens to life in a unique way it showcases Kew’s beauty and majesty in a whole new light.”

Anthony Geffen, CEO at Atlantic Productions said: “We are delighted to work with Kew again on another project harnessing cutting-edge technology, this time using the unique immersive medium of VR to show off the beauty and wonder of the gardens from a totally new perspective.”

View from a Giant Redwood will be installed at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery at Kew Gardens only a five minute walk away from the Redwood featured in the VR film. Visitors will be able to try out the experience from 22nd July to 3rd September.
