Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep Gameplay Details Revealed

Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep was officially announced at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles, back in June. However, few details on exactly how the videogame will play on PlayStation VR have been revealed. That is, until now.

Details revealed earlier this month at the PlayStation Experience South East Asia, Kuala Lumpur, included the revelation of a selection of rods and lures, boss fights and multiple gameplay modes. However, now Square Enix Ltd. has also confirmed a quest system that will allow the player to earn cash, and thus purchase better equipment.

More details have also been revealed regarding the control system for Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep. By default, the player’s left hand will hold a sonar which detects where the fish may be hiding while the right hand is used to cast your rod, pressing and releasing the trigger as you make an over-arm throwing motion. The left hand then controls the reel on the rod, winding back in if you successfully catch a fish or if there’s no bite (an auto reel-in is also available in the latter instance).

Should you land your catch, you’ll then be able to examine it more closely alongside Noctis, who in the demo version of the videogame currently being shown across the globe is fishing alongside you. During the PlayStation Experience South East Asia it was revealed that the player isn’t actually cast as one of the characters from Final Fantasy XV, but rather an addition to the team of protagonists.

This culminates in a fireside cooking session with the whole crew. Should your catch be impressive enough Prompto will want to take a photo.

Finally, it has also come to light that Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep can be played without PlayStation Move controllers. The videogame will be compatible with the DualShock 4 controller, though PlayStation VR remains essential. Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep will launch via PlayStation Network next month, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
