Modder Lets You Play Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast in VR

Bringing a deep, believable Star Wars experience to virtual reality (VR) is the holy grail of the new medium for many. While there have been superficial experiences such as Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine and the add-on content for the PlayStation 4 edition of Star Wars: Battlefront, there’s still nothing in the way of a fully-fledged gaming experience. Enter the fanbase, taking Star Wars to places that the official rights holders wouldn’t dare to.

One brave Star Wars fan by the name of Jochen Leopold has decided that it’s better to look back before pushing forward, taking it upon himself to develop a VR edition of the classic Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast. Originally released in 2002 for Windows PC, GameCube and Xbox, the videogame remains available to download via Steam, currently priced at £6.99 GBP.

Leopold’s mod for Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast includes a lot of minor hacks and adjustments to the third-person action videogame, including free-look during cutscenes and a first-person view enabled for Lightsaber action as default. However, Leopold warns that Oculus Touch compatibility is not currently available, and in fact he’s not sure if it ever will be.

You can download the mod from Github, and visit Leopold’s own website here. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest endeavours to bring the Star Wars franchise into VR.
