Blackmagic Design, creators of some of the most popular video effects products have announced the release of Fusion 9, which has been designed to support the newest technology, including virtual reality (VR) tools.
Fusion 9 has integrated a full VR toolset that allows users to work in a 360-degree 3D workspace, along with providing a panoramic viewer and support for popular high-end headsets such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The software uses GPU acceleration to allow Fusion 9 users to wear a VR headset and edit and interact with elements they are composing in real time. A new 360-degree spherical camera mode has also been introduced to allow for single-pass rendering of VR scenes.
A new Planar Tracker has also been introduced to calculate motion planes to enable to accurate compositing of moving elements. For example, in a scene in a moving car, signs moving past the window can be replaced with whatever the scene requires. In addition, the planar tracker supports rotoscoped elements, meaning users will not need to manually animate motion, position or rotation as the image changes.
“Fusion is an incredibly rich and powerful tool that Hollywood’s top visual effects and motion graphics artists have been using for years,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “Fusion 9 adds the new features and tools customers have been asking for, supports more formats and newer workflows than ever before, has even more GPU and OpenCL acceleration, and a new dramatically lower price! This makes Fusion even more accessible than ever before. Plus, the new collaboration tools and free unlimited network rendering will change the way large studios work!”
Blackmagic Design have also announced that its full suite of software, Fusion Studio, has been reduced in price from $995 (USD) to $299. The company will be demonstrating the new Fusion 9 software at SIGGRAPH 2017, at booth #907.
