Former Sony Director of Strategic Content Reveals Debut VR Videogame: Chimera Zero

Shahid Ahmad stepped down from his position as Director of Strategic Content at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), then known as Sony Computer Entertainment, back in 2015. Since then, Ahmad has been hard at work with Ultimatum Games, developing the studio’s first virtual reality (VR) videogame.

Announcing his departure from SIE via a blog post, Ahmad stated that his reason for doing so was simply, “I want to make games again.”

Now, Ahmad has revealed what he and the team at Ultimatum Games have been working on: Chimera Zero. The announcement came via a tweet late last night, in which Ahmad revealed the logo for the videogame as well as stating that it’s set for release on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Apparently, the studio already has a tech demo running on PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.

“The demo has been played in working form by about a dozen people,” revealed Ahmad in a tweet that followed the announcement. “I’ll tell you more about this project in the coming weeks.”

Ahmad also stated that Chimera Zero is not directly related to the 1985 title, Chimera (pictured above), in anything other than the ‘robots and an unashamedly sci-fi setting’. That ZX Spectrum title was originally designed by Ahmad and published under the Firebird brand for Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit and Commodore 64 in addition to the ZX Spectrum.

No other details concerning Chimera Zero are currently available. However, as stated above, Ahmad has promised to reveal more details in the coming weeks, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest.
