Popular Japanese light novel series Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World was originally published in 2012, since being adapted into an Anime series, Manga and internet radio show before heading to consoles and smartphones. Now fans of the series will be able to virtually cuddle up to their favourite Re:Zero girl in virtual reality.
Re: Zero -Life in Another World in VR– was originally released for iOS and Android in Japan earlier this year, coming in four different forms costing 960 yen each. Two of the releases let you sleep in Rem or Emilia’s lap, and another two releases that let you sleep beside Rem or Emilia.
The plot of Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World concerns a reclusive boy called Subaru Natsuki who finds himself summoned to another world. With no obvious way home, he tries to adapt, only to discover he has acquired the mysterious power to rewind time upon dying.
For the upcoming PlayStation VR and Steam VR release, the Rem and Emilia experiences have been combined, so buying the Rem bundle will let you virtually sleep beside her on on her lap, or the same for the Emilia bundle. Both will feature the ‘Figure Appreciation’ mode that lets you watch scenes featuring the character from any angle. Each bundle will be priced at 2,160 yen.
It’s unknown if there are any plans to launch the title in the West. It seems unlikely, since the Smartphone version of the title is still a Japanese exclusive.
