Developer Squidbeam Games is working on a follow up to Samsung Gear VR Twobit, which was released last year. The upcoming title, Twobit Odyssey will be a puzzle-platform title that uses gaze controls.
Squidbeam Games Founder Laurent Kermel is primarily known for his work as a visual effects artist on such big-budget films as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the Transformers film franchise. Twobit Odyssey has been designed by Kermel to utilise a unique control scheme, where everything is controlled by the user’s gaze, with no other controls needed.
The premise of the title is that a small robot called Twobit activates in a dark and unknown location. The player acts as Twobit’s guide, directing him, finding locations, activating various functions by nodding ‘Yes’ in agreement, or shaking their head for No. If you get stuck, you can switch to first-person view to see the world through Twobit’s eyes. Each action allows Twobit to progress, explore the world, uncover the mystery and discover the truth.
Twobit Odyssey uses immersive 3D sound to help the user navigate, offering various sound cues to location items of interest, and let the player keep track of Twobit by the sounds he makes without needing to keep an eye on him at all times, helping to add to the immersion.
A precise release date and price point for Twobit Odyssey has yet to be confirmed, but Squidbeam Games hopes to release the title on to Samsung Gear VR before the end of 2017.
