Developer Rockin Heart Games has announced that its first original title, virtual reality (VR) visual novel Tear: Owari to Hajimari no Shizuku will be heading to PlayStation VR in October, 2017.
So far, the title has only be confirmed for Japanese release. The plot concerns a device called a ‘Tear’ which the characters use to go back and forth between the real world and a dream-like ‘vision’. This allows them to get involved with incidents such as UFOs, kidnappings, ghosts, shady military dealings and other strange or supernatural events. Eventually, the characters find themselves being drawn into a battle that surrounds the end of the world, and the mystery around the ‘Third Secret of Fatima’.
The story utilises multiple perspectives covering the various characters involved in the plot. Players will need to unravel the complex plot to solve the mystery in order for the full truth to be revealed. There is also a VR exploration mode, which allows players to look more closely at the world of Tear: Owari to Hajimari no Shizuku. The characters have been created using Live2D technology, which allows 2D artwork into animations for a variety of mediums and platforms.
It is not yet known what control scheme the title will use, bit it is expected to primarily use the Dual Shock 4 controller.
The title is due for release on the PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support on 5th October, 2017 and is planned to cost 1,500 yen. There is no word so far on any plans for a Western release.
