Global Health Film Festival now Accepting Applications Focused on Health Issues

VRFocus has covered a myriad of ways that immersive technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) can help in the medical profession, assisting both those who work in the field and patients alike. Now in its third year, the Global Health Film Festival has opened applications looking for people with ideas for projects around global health issues as part of the Crossover Development Lab.

Projects can be apps, art installations, live events and performances, interactive online experiences, webdocs, 360-degree, VR or Mixed Reality (MR), really anything that goes beyond traditional film and TV screens.

Open to global health advocates, filmmakers, emerging VR producers, immersive media producers, digital media specialists, artists or creatives, the three-day lab welcomes anyone who wants to use immersive media to engender debate, or create real world change, around global health issues.

Pitches should cover a global health topic, which could include but are not limited to:

  • Mental health
  • Refugee Health
  • Climate Change
  • Disability
  • Maternal and Neonatal Health
  • Healthy Aging
  • LGBTQ Rights
  • Surgery
  • Emerging Infections
  • Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases

If successful, applicants will join the three-day Crossover Development Lab where a team of mentors including Crossover Labs’ Mark Atkin; Rebecca Ashdown from Together Films; Tom Roberts a Freelance Producer and IMRGE’s Phil Harper, to help develop the ideas further, with the winner securing a £5,000 GBP development award and on-going mentoring with Crossover.

Applications are open until Tuesday 31 October 2017. There will be a participation fee of £75 per person for selected projects. The Global Health Crossover Lab will take place in London, UK on 5th-7th December, followed by a live pitch at the Global Health Film Festival on 8th-9th December at the Barbican.

For further details and to apply, head to the Crossover website. Additionally, for the first time The Global Health Film Festival is accepting submissions of completed projects that use VR, AR or MR that cover topics like those listed above.
