Vive Studios and Heavy Iron Studios have today announced the launch of Amazon Odyssey, a videogame designed to bring the rainforest to users through virtual reality (VR). Featuring four environments based on real locations within the Amazon, the videogame provides users with an opportunity to engage in a variety of activities from parachuting to navigating a boat.
In Amazon Odyssey, players will explore four interactive environments while engaging in activities such as paragliding above the tree-tops and capturing local wildlife on film. Amazon Odyssey gets you up close to experience and appreciate the biodiversity of one of nature’s most powerful ecosystems.
Amazon Odyssey is also intended to serve as an educational resource in that it comes equipped with an encyclopaedia to educate players on the different species and plants which inhabit the terrain. Thanks to its interactive nature, this new offering from Vive Studios demonstrates how VR is being used to educate and expose people to different parts of the world that they may not experience otherwise.
Heavy Iron Studios made its VR debut with the development of Fat City for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and Gear VR also available for Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, iOS and Android. Previously the developer had worked on numerous licensed titles, including Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer and the Disney Infinity franchise.
Vive Studios is HTC Vive’s development and publishing initiative designed to help content creators turn their creative VR concepts into reality. Vive Studios has acted as a publisher for a number of VR videogames and experiences, including the first title developed by HTC Vive’s own studio, Fantahorn, Front Defense. Vive Studios is actively seeking further VR content from development studios across other key categories for VR including healthcare, education, gaming, communication, design, cinema, real estate, retail, live events and theme parks.
