Sony Reveal Fast Travel Games’ First VR Title Apex Construct

If you own a PlayStation VR headset then you’ll know that there are plenty of virtual reality (VR) titles currently available for it. If you’re worried about future content then you needn’t be as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) press conference today has showcased plenty of new titles that are either coming this year or soon. One of those comes from Fast Travel Games in the form of Apex Construct.

Apex Construct is the very first videogame from the new Swedish studio, which formed in 2016 by ex-Rovio, EA, and DICE staff. The title is a first-person shooter (FPS) set in a futuristic sci-fi world of robots: “Travel to the shattered future of Apex Construct, where merciless robots prowl the world as a result of mankind’s reckless experiments,” the official description explains. “As these synthetic creatures seek to dominate their new hunting grounds, you must use both your wits and combat skills to survive. In this atmospheric first-person Action/Adventure game, built exclusively for VR, the fate of mankind rests on you – the last human alive.”

“Immersion in virtual reality isn’t just about realistic motions and movements – it’s also about how believable the world you’ve stepped into becomes, and how much you can interact with it. That’s why we’ve focused so much on world building in Apex Construct,” said Oskar Burman, CEO and co-founder of Fast Travel Games in a statement. “Between frantic moments of action that pit you against perilous robots, players will have the opportunity to explore the environment and engage in their surroundings, solving puzzles that help to further their understanding of this fractured future world and its history.”

“Coming from the world of AAA action games, one of the cardinal rules we’ve always followed is to give our players the right tools for the right job. In virtual reality, few weapons feel as tactile and immersive as a bow and arrow, which made it a natural fit for our first VR experience,” added Erik Odelhdahl, lead designer on Apex Construct. “Attaining a true sense of immersion requires motions that feel natural to a player. We’ve made sure to do this in every moment of Apex Construct, whether that’s pulling back on a bow, throwing a grenade, or rummaging through old buildings.”

Apex Construct will be available first on PlayStation VR, with releases on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Microsoft Mixed Reality Headsets to follow, although dates have yet to be confirmed.

As further details are revealed VRFocus will keep you updated.
