Vivid Vision Launches its VR Vision Therapy System

Virtual reality (VR) is been used for all sorts of reasons in the medical profession, from training staff to treating patients with depression. Vivid Vision is a company using the technology to help people with visual disorders such as amblyopia or strabismus, and today launched its vision therapy system, Vivid Vision Home.

Vivid Vision Home has been designed as a replacement for certain therapies such as an eye patch or eye drops for example. The platform combines VR videogames with tests that can deliver a customised treatment for each patient.

The company initially rolled out a clinical version back in October 2015 to optometrists and schools, then a beta was released towards the end of last year. Today sees the full release of the system, which supports Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream.

“We’ve been working hard to make sure Vivid Vision is easy for everyone to use, I think we’re in a really good place to launch Vivid Vision Home and the system will only get better with time,” said Vivid Vision co-founder and CTO Manish Gupta in a statement.

As Vivid Vision Home is designed to be used by an eye specialist anyone seeking to use the system can head to the Vivid Vision website to look for a provider that offers the service. At present over 100 clinics have signed up, located across North America and Europe.
