Pokémon GO Travel and the Global Catch Challenge Starts Today

There might be an ever growing amount of augmented reality (AR) apps descending onto mobile devices yet the most popular and well known is still likely to be Niantic Labs’ Pokémon GO. For its latest promotion the studio has announced the Pokémon GO Travel and the Global Catch Challenge, which has launched today.

Pokémon GO Travel is a new video series to see the world through the eyes of a Pokémon Trainer, with a group of Trainers from around the world heading over to Japan to host first-ever Global Catch Challenge. The aim of the challenge is to catch 3 billion in the next seven days, with three set goals unlocking rewards for players around the world.

As you can see from the image above, at 500 million catches players will unlock double XP, 6 hour lure modules and more Pokémon. If 3 billion catches can be achieved then two Pokémon will be available for 48 hours, Farfetch’d will be worldwide, while Kangaskhan will be available in East Asia.

If you want to enter simply start playing Pokémon GO today, The Global Catch Challenge concludes on 26th November with a special celebration at the Pokémon GO Safari Zone event in Tottori, Japan.

Niantic be posting daily updates on the trainers adventures, with Rachel, Tiffany, Gabi, Leon and more learning about Japanese culture, whilst updating trainers on the rewards the community unlocks along the way.

The studio tends to release a promotional event every month to keep players engaged. During October there was a Halloween update featuring Ghost-type Pokemon such as Sableye and Banette. In September there was the big Equinox Event, where participating players could earn double Stardust for catching Pokémon and hatching Eggs, collect special 2 km Eggs at PokéStops and Gyms, and more.
