There are plenty of 360-degree cameras on the market to suit everyone’s needs and budgets. For standalone devices with built-in memory and batteries to smartphone compatible cameras. Now VIA Technologies, Inc., has announced the launch of the iPhone compatible VRCam X2 from Taiji Vision Co. Ltd which combines the best of both worlds.
Similar in look and function to the Insta360 Nano which launched last year, the VRCam X2 can be used either connected to an iPhone or without as the camera has an integrated Lightning connector, dedicated battery, and SD card storage. This means users can record panoramic 4K images and 2K videos using the 5MP camera on the fly.
“The VRCam X2 is a fun and affordable 360-degree camera for Apple iPhone users who love to experiment with innovative new forms of photography and share their images and videos online,” said Richard Brown, VP International Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “With its rich feature set and powerful VPai app it’s ideal for capturing magical panoramic moments during the forthcoming holiday season.”
Used in conjunction with the VPai iOS app that provides an array of real-time immersive capture, stitching, editing, and sharing features, users can select from 12 colour filters, time-lapse and live-stream their 360 videos direct to social media networks including Facebook, YouTube, and Weibo.
Available in four colour options: Luxurious Gold, China Red, Rose Gold, and Space Grey, the VRCam X2 will be available through retailers like Amazon for $149 USD. VRCam X2 is compatible with iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6.
The VRCam X2 supports Micro SD cards up to 128GB but cards larger than 32GB must be formatted with an NTFS file system format. There’s a 800mAh lithium ion battery built-in but Taiji Vision hasn’t given any figures for life expectancy when filming or taking photos.
