A number of innovations in software, hardware and technology related to virtual reality (VR) and other immersive technologies have been applied to healthcare in recent years. The World Innovation Summit for Health is planning to showcase these new technologies at its next event in 2018.
VR has seen increased use in medicine, with advances such as improved visualisation technologies for surgery, or to provide information and entertainment for patients and their families, or to help treat addictions. The World Innovation Summit for Health, (WISH) will be showcasing these technologies, along with other advancement in medical technology at The WISH Hub part of the conference.
WISH is held bi-annually, alternating with the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE). The organisers have now announced that WISH 2018 will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre on 13th-14th November, 2018.
The 2018 event will feature The WISH Hub for the first time, which will provide interactive demonstrations of health technologies of various types, including VR, mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) as well as robotic devices and artificial intelligence.
Attendees at the event will be able to see key note speeches from areas of the healthcare and technology sectors, and also take part in group discussion sessions and speak to the authors behind some of the recent reports published by WISH.
Lord Darzi of Denham, Executive Chair of WISH said: “When, back in 2012, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, announced her intention to create WISH, she offered global healthcare leaders an exciting opportunity to come to Qatar and use WISH as a base from which to capture and disseminate the best new evidence-based, healthcare-focused ideas. As we start the build-up to our fourth summit, I think we can be proud of what we’ve achieved so far, confident that our community of leaders continues to bring about positive change through innovation in the global healthcare sector, and ambitious when exploring further ways to work together towards building a healthier world.”
the WISH organisers are also seeking entrepreneurs and innovators in the healthcare area to enter the WISH 2018 Innovation Showcase, who will be invited to display their projects at the 2018 summit. Further information can be found on the WISH website.
