The International Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, is one of the biggest events in the calendar for hardware developers as well as fans of gadgets and technology. For the last two years, the 3dRudder has won awards at CES, and the company is returning again to showcase the new version of its product.
French company 3dRudder created its flagship product, also named 3dRudder, as an accessory for virtual reality (VR). The device acts as a different type of motion controller, which allows users to move around the virtual environment using their feet. This approach can reduce simulation sickness for some users, and can also offer greater flexibility for players who are unable to stand for long periods. The 3dRudder is compatible with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and can interface with a broad variety of VR experiences, allowing users to walk, run, swim or control vehicles using the foot controller, and still leave user’s hands free to use standard hand motion controllers such as the Oculus Touch.
3dRudder have been releasing regular updates since the product was launched in 2016, adding features such as Unleashed Mode to better accommodate room-scale VR experiences, or Unreal Engine 4 VR editor navigation for developers who wish to use the device. The 3dRudder is currently available through the official website, priced at $139 (USD).
The new version of the foot-powered controller is planned to be revealed at CES Unveil on 7th January 2018, and will be further showcased at the CES show, which is due to take place on 9th-12th January, 2018 in Las Vegas. At previous CES shows, the 3dRudder scooped up awards for VR Accessory at the CES Innovation awards.
