Life In 360°: The White Stuff

Good morning one and all and welcome to the first day of VRFocus‘ regular festive period, known affectionately by the staff as ‘Christmas Mode’. We’re all off to see our families, some of whom have probably forgotten what we look like considering how hard we’ve all worked in 2017. For those who recall last year at this time this means that you can expect a daily edition of Life In 360° from me at the slightly later time of 11am (GMT) through until the New Year. That’s in addition to all the latest news and articles on everything related to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and everything in between. That and of course VRFocus‘ regular features aren’t going anywhere so keep an eye out for those.

So, let’s get things underway, shall we? And what would our trip into the depths of winter be like without discussing the benefits of snow? Well, we’ll get to that no doubt at some point. For now though, let’s talk about the negatives of snow. Obviously, it’s freezing cold, which is the last thing you want to deal with at this time in the morning. It also messes up transport. Be that roads, railways – or even your ability to simply get down the garden path and away from your residence in the first place.

Since it’s the first day of the aforementioned ‘Christmas Mode’ we’ll start things off with a twofer. Two videos that look at the process not of enjoying the snow but getting rid of it. We’re off to America for both of them, with the first one coming from The Denver Post as it records snowcats clearing a record snowfall off of Moffat Road. Freeing up the trail to Corona Pass for tourist season. The area is part of Rollins Pass, a mountain road in the Rocky Mountains of north-central Colorado that is at over eleven thousand feet high.

Next let’s take a look at the town of Vienna in Virgina with USA Today. We’re travelling back to January 2016 and the aftermath of the so-called ‘Snowzilla’ blizzard which left the town rather festive looking. Get ready to straddle a John Deere plow as it tries to clear a path as others struggle valiently with a more manual method.

Come back tomorrow for another suitably festive example of Life In 360°, here, on VRFocus.
