Rocket Worldwide, an all-new entertainment and technology start-up specialising in family-friendly virtual reality (VR) entertainment has launched its first title on Steam today for HTC Vive, Train Runner VR.
Train Runner VR immerses players in a world where they discover a stranded puppy named Panda on railroad tracks spanning a 500-foot gorge, with a runaway locomotive looming in the distance. After being propelled into the action by flying through a perilous mountain pass, players discover whimsical gadgets and tools like a bow & arrow and a ballista that launches a variety of explosive projectiles such as flaming cannonballs which are needed to defeat the train and save Panda. There’s also a mystery box that contains surprises like new gadgets and scenes which is regularly refreshed with something new.
After the train is finally defeated, players can explore the world of Train Runner VR to discover new surprises.
“We are firm believers in how virtual reality can act as a uniquely engaging platform to deliver emotional and exciting content that can inspire a new generation of youth,” said Doug Kryzan, CEO of Rocket Worldwide and Train Runner VR producer and writer in a statement. “Our goal with Train Runner is to deliver a memorable and impactful virtual reality experience that speaks to a child’s worldview and can be enjoyed by the whole family.”
The videogame features handmade illustrations by British illustrator Alexandra Tully (Principal Character Illustrator and key contributor within the toy industry) and original music and sound effects from composer Matt Blackett (former editor of Guitar Player magazine, now Director of Music and Sound for Rocket Worldwide). “The Rocket team experimented endlessly to create a new stylized realism that is exciting and can transcend the gravity and dimension of our real world,” added Kryzan. “If we’ve done our job, Train Runner will leave you breathless, laughing, and with a big grin on your face.”
Featuring language support in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese,Train Runner VR is now available for purchase via Steam for HTC Vive for $19.95 USD/£15.49. Until 26th December there’s a 15 percent discount dropping the cost to £13.16.
