A Guide to Setting up Your PlayStation VR – Headset

So you’ve connected the multitude of cables between the PlayStation VR, processor unit, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Camera, and TV. You’re almost ready to enjoy some of the best virtual reality (VR) videogames on any platform but first you need to acclimatise yourself with the head-mounted display (HMD) for a comfortable gameplay session.

The PlayStation VR’s design is widely regarded as one of – if not the – most comfortable of all the high-end headsets, with the visor gently resting on your face rather than being squeezed onto it – which results in ‘VR face’ where the sponge pads of rivals create a slight impression. Getting this just right is important not only for casual use but also heavier gameplay sessions in titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR when you might be wearing the HMD for several hours.

Putting on and Fitting the PlayStation VR Headset

Model CUH-ZVR1

Step 1: Be sure to have your DUALSHOCK 4 controller close by so you can easily reach for it once you have put on the PlayStation VR Headset.
Step 2: If you are using earbuds put them on. If you are using overhear headphones, leave them off for now and go to the next step.
Step 3: Pull out the scope by pressing and holding the scope adjust button found on the bottom right of the PlayStation VR Headset.
Step 4: Press and hold the Headband release button and pull the headband out to extend it and then put it on.
Step 5: Adjust the scope position by holding the scope adjust button (underneath the PlayStation VR Headset scope on the right) and push the scope in towards your face.
Step 6: Lower the headband to a comfortable position and gently adjust up and down so that the image is as clear as possible.
Step 7: Once you find the best fit, turn the headband adjustment dial on the rear and tighten the headband.
Step 8: If you are using over-ear headphones, put them on over the PlayStation VR Headset and plug them into the in-line stereo headphone jack on the cable.
Step 9: Adjust the PlayStation VR Headset by wiggling the scope up / down and left / right to make minor adjustments until things are in focus.
Step 10: To remove the headset, press the headband release button and re-extend the headband. Don’t pull off using the scope.

If you wear glasses both models will happily accommodate most designs, you just need to make sure to leave a little space so that they don’t touch the headset lenses or feel squashed against you. Having your glasses touch the lens could result in damage to your glasses, VR headset lens or both.
