Elite Dangerous has received enthusiastic support from videogamers, both welcoming new audiences and pleasing the old school fans who remember the classic Elite and Frontier Elite II titles from the microcomputer era. Those same fans will no be eagerly anticipating the first update of Elite Dangerous’ third season, titled Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One.
The previous Elite Dangerous update was launched in September 2017 and featured the return of deadly foes the Thargoids, who proceeded to leave a swathe of devastation across the virtual galaxy of Elite Dangerous.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One will further advance the narrative as well as introduce some new gameplay elements and upgrades, improving the experience for players of types, whether they prefer to fight, trade or explore. The new update will be made available for free to PC Elite Dangerous players as part of an open beta, allowing PC and virtual reality (VR) users to get their first look at the new content as well as offer feedback that could shape the future of the title’s development.
The open beta will include new content such as Wing Missions, which have been designed to offer a team-based challenge to experienced players, letting friends and communities work together to overcome obstacles and claim the rewards. Also included will be advanced Trading Data, which will allow commerce-focussed players to make better deals.
The update will be introducing a new Alliance warship called the Chieftain, and an audio in-game news feed called GalNet Audio, allowing players to keep up with the ongoing storyline, wherever they are in the galaxy. Other improvements have been added, such as changed to engineering mechanics, an overhaul of mission rewards, and a changed crime and punishment system.
VR users will also be pleased to note that the planet rendering technology has received an upgrade, which will allow the Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One planets to show off more vibrant surface colours.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One will be released for free to users on all platforms, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 some time in Q1 of 2018. The PC open beta will be available from 25th January, 2018. VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest news on Elite Dangerous.
