We’ve had virtual reality (VR) driving simulators and even VR tours and test drives, but Kia promise their new VR experience for the 2018 Kia Stinger is a “four-dimensional virtual reality test drive.” It certainly sounds grand.
Being debuted at the North American International Auto Show, Detroit, the presentation puts users behind the wheel of the Kia Stinger, and they say it allows users to feel the speed, agility, responsiveness and handling on the Stinger, which they claim is the company’s best production model ever.
The experience drives users through provincial towns of Southern France, along the Pacific Coast, and to the Cadwell Park racing circuit in England. It’s nice for those attending the show, but if you’re at home you don’t have to feel like you’re missing out. You’ll be able to test-drive the Stinger for yourself by downloading the Jaunt app on Android or iOS.
During the drive Kia representatives will talk to you about the locations you drive through, the Stinger’s design, performance, and more. If you are lucky enough to be at the show in Detroit, there’ll be a unique set up involving projectors and even a specially programmed floor that will deliver haptic feedback.
Saad Chehab is Vice President of Marketing Communications at Kia Motors, and shared his excitement for the new vehicle; “With a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 167 miles per hour, the Stinger is like nothing anyone has ever seen from Kia before and the 4D Stinger Experience takes virtual reality way beyond the visual to connect with consumers and enthusiasts at the visceral level. Every twist and turn, every rush of acceleration and every braking run is experienced as if you, the driver, are in command. Stinger is a vehicle that you need to feel to truly appreciate.”
It’s a fascinating way to advertise their new vehicle, and although we imagine it’s not quite the same without the haptic floor. Still, even without that it’s an interesting VR ride. Let us know if you try it out for yourself, and keep reading VRFocus for all of the latest.
