Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are both being tapped as new ways of teaching and training employees, with employers finding that immersive content helps in the learning process. Today, NextWave Safety Solutions has announced availability of its first two VR training modules, Hazard ID and Forklift.
The company on a mission to eliminate workplace accidents, whether its through VR training modules like Hazard ID and Forklift or launching its own custom safety programs that include on-site support to recognize potential hazards before they become life or financial loss.
Through NextWave Academy, customers have access to a full range of OSHA and IACET-certified programs offered in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Italian and Polish that can be done on site or at one of NextWave’s facilities. Currently, the forklift and hazard identification training modules are the only ones enhanced with VR components, but the company has eight more planned for release in 2018.
“We look at OSHA standards as the bare minimum,” said Lorenzo Gallo, NextWave CEO in a statement. “Would you want your child driving around in a car with minimum brake power? For companies wanting to go beyond OSHA, we’re offering not only VR-enhanced training programs but on-site support, both associated with reducing the number of incidents. Our success in this area is recognized with lower premiums for our customers as insurance providers can count on there being fewer workplace accidents.”
NextWave approach has helped them become a provider of training programs for the New York Fire Department, the New York City Department of Buildings and emergency responders.
“Infrastructure is an area of huge investment and will continue to grow,” added Gallo. “We want to ensure that the people building our future get home safely. It’s a great bonus that our efforts lead to lower costs on insurance premiums, workers compensation and work stop through injury. It’s really a win-win for insurers, developers and workers.”
As more companies embrace VR training programmes VRFocus will let you know.
