South Korean developer Reality Reflection first released its fast-paced multiplayer title under the name Snatchers, though the title has since grown into a virtual reality (VR) e-sports hopeful, which is now available on the Oculus Store.
Speedball Arena is based around a fast-paced futuristic sport played on hoverbikes, using a hook gun to grab and throw the ball. The developers hope to bring the excitement of real-world sports to VR, and have set up Speedball Arena to be a potential contender for e-sports.
Built using Unreal Engine 4 to provide smooth, high-quality graphics and utilising a simple and intuitive control scheme to encourage players to pick up and play, players enter the arena to take a seat on a rapidly accelerating hoverbike, snatching at floating hook-points scattered through the arena to achieve even more speed.
The main game mode involves 2 v 2 custom matches, where players can both play and chat with friends, or use the matchmaking facility to find new teammates or opponents. Speedball Arena is fully cross-platform compatible, so regardless of if players are using Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or are just a regular non-VR user, they are all added to the same player pool.
The title was previously launched on Steam last year, where is has received a warm reception from the Steam community. The developers hope to continue to improve and refine Speedball Arena with updates, maintaining a focus on creating a balanced and intuitive experience for VR and non-VR players.
“We’re thrilled to launch the latest version of Speedball Arena on Oculus store. With the addition of Custom Room feature, local multiplayer gameplay became possible and users visiting VR arcades can play together in a same virtual world.” said Don Lim, VP of Business Development and Marketing at Reality Reflection.
Speedball Arena is now available on the Oculus Store, priced at $9.99(USD). Further information on the developer, Reality Reflection, can be found at the official website. VRFocus will bring you further updates on Speedball Arena as they become available.
