Anyone who has worked on creating a film project of any sort knows that being able to view what the audience sees is a vital part of the process. This is difficult enough with traditional film and animation, adding virtual reality (VR) creates a whole new realm of complexity. Vaki are aiming to make this process easier with the release of the Cinext VR Runtime Editor plugin for Unity.
Editing is a critical part of creating a film, whether that is a short film, videogame cutscene or full-blown feature-length movie. Bad editing can make a masterpiece into a disaster, and vice-versa. One of the major difficulties in editing VR is that it tends involve a lot of tedios switching back and forth between donning a VR headset and looking at the scene from within the VR environment to viewing it on a desktop monitor. Vaki’s Cinext VR Runtime Editor removes the need for this switching.
Cinext VR Runtime Editor allows users to edit real-time material fully within the VR space, allowing editors to fully see what is happening within the VR space without any blind-spots. Various aspects such as environment, effects, lights and physics can all be modified from within VR play mode.
Vaki says that the plugin allows for more flexible and collaborative workflows to allow high-quality works to be produced more swiftly. The company also says this is just one of the useful tools it is planning to release to aid creators of VR and augmented reality (AR) content.
The company, including its CEO Teemu Jyrkinen have been working with visual effects studios to develop the technology used in Cinext VR Runtime Editor and its other upcoming tools: “Vaki’s CEO has been part of our Live Action Series course and I’m proud and frilled to see the release of VR content creation tool set Cinext and believe this will be a game changer for those of us creating VR content.” said Allan McKay Los-Angeles based Emmy award winning Visual effects Supervisor and Technical Director.
