VR and Vocals with The Broken Seal

The ability to use voice commands to cast spells within a videogame was one of the major attractions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim combined with Xbox Kinect support. Yelling ‘Fus Ro Dah’ and seeing an enemy go flying was deeply satisfying. Newly released virtual reality (VR) fantasy The Broken Seal seeks to expand on this concept by integrating it into VR.

The basic story premise of The Broken Seal is a typical fantasy hook – an ancient seal has been broken, letting loose the evil powers which are consuming, destroying and despoiling across the land. The player takes on the task of ridding the world of this evil.

The development team at XAREA have crafted a very large, expansive world for players to explore. Players who has previously enjoyed the Early Access version of the title commented that just the first map has over seven hours of playable content, and more than five maps were available. The environments are varied, including forests, ruins, snowy mountain peaks and arid deserts.

There are dozens of vocally-activated spells available within The Broken Seal, each having a unique effect which develops as you progress, in addition to picking up loot for new weapons and gear. As such, you can eventually cast spells such as ‘I am the Ripper of the Burning Sky’ to see the sky open up and a flaming meteor fall from the heavens to smash upon your enemies.

A page has been taken from Dark Souls as well, as the title contains multiplayer that lets you summon other players to fight alongside you, or summon an AI-controlled pet to aid you in battle.

The Broken Seal is out now on Steam, compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality. It is priced at £14.61 (GBP), a 25% launch discount on the usual price of £19.49.

Further information can be found on the Steam store page. As always, VRFocus will continue to inform you of new releases and discounts for VR titles.
