There’s less than a month to go until this years Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2018 opens its doors with plenty of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) content expected. The event will also be filled with plenty of talks focused on immersive content development with several new sessions being announced.
Luke Schloemer and Xavier Gonzalez, both from Magnopus will be holding a session called ‘CocoVR’: Engineering a Cinematic Experience, Spherical Multi-Projection aims to show attendees an alternative technique for texturing static geometry when no texture coordinates are available, or when it is impractical to do so with a small team size.
The next session announced is from Bill Rudolph and Kevin Bolen, Skywalker Sound and Damian Kastbauer, ArenaNet, called ‘Carne y Arena’: Uncompromising Audio for Narrative VR. The trio will share how cutting edge interactive audio technology and tried-and-true cinematic sound design create unparalleled immersion in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s ‘Carne y Arena’.
Next on the list is Mind Control in Mobile VR: Gaze Activated UI in ‘SingSpace’ by Jeffrey Hesser and Kevin Cavanaugh from Harmonix. They’ll address the specific challenges Harmonix faced and lessons the studio learned about developing UI for mobile VR during the development of the Gear VR title, SingSpace.
Lastly, there’s Cameron Brown and Jon Gill from Against Gravity, the studio behind social VR club Rec Room. Room for Everyone: The ‘Rec Room’ Approach to Community VR the pair will share what they’ve learned about managing and empowering the creativity of a diverse and rapidly growing virtual community.
