Bring the world of Stranger Things into your home with this augmented reality (AR) application for Microsoft HoloLens that brings the upside down dimension to life.
With the advancing in AR technology continuing to allow for endless possibilities for content creators to build experiences the team at Cubera Solutions AG are working on a Stranger Things experience that will turn a users home into the upside down dimension. Thanks to the power of the HoloLens head-mounted display (HMD) and the Unity engine, the team are bringing the popular Netflix’s TV series to a new dimension.
The experience works by first scanning and analyzing the environment you are in, finding out if there is enough room on the walls for the placement of the monsters. It is during this scanning process that the application creates a polygon mesh of the environment which is then covered in a texture and then used as a point of reference for the placement of objects.
Users are able to move freely around the experience and see particles cover the walls of the room they are in and occasionally they will see a monster come out of the wall and give them a shocking surprise. Because of the technology being used the upside down experience is an immersive one that creates a believable experience thanks to the mapping technology being used. With the monster able to jump out at any moment, from any mapped surface, the team at Cubera Solutions AG have put together a solid product that has a lot of potential for future development.
This is not the first immersive experience that aims to bring fans closer to the world of Stranger Things with a virtual reality (VR) experience titled Stranger Things: The VR Experience was released last year and was developed by Turtle Rock Studios. There was a number of downloadable content released for the title as well which gave users more to enjoy. You can see a brief showcase of the product in the below video.
The Stranger Things upside down experience on HoloLens is still in development and VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on it and Cubera Solutions AG in the future.
