Fan-Made VR Title Brings Yu-Gi-Oh! To Life

If you have ever wanted to bring the action-packed duals of Yu-Gi-Oh! to life then the virtual reality (VR) fan-made Yu-Gi-Oh! title currently in development will be of interest to you.

Yu-Gi-Oh! VR 01

Yu-Gi-Oh! continues to be one of the most popular card games in the world besides Pokémon and is still played even today. With that said a fan made project has been shown off that brings the popular card game to VR letting players experience a dual as it is shown in the anime series.

The demo, created by YouTuber Joseph Min, shows off a working version of the card game within virtual space complete with card effects and monster models. The demo is still very much a work in progress but it shows that there is a chance for such a title to work within VR.

Yu-Gi-Oh! VR 02

This is not the first time that Yu-Gi-Oh! has been taken to the realm of VR as in the past a proof-of-concept demo was shown for an augmented reality (AR) title. That demo was running on Microsoft’s HoloLens and was inspired by the likes of Pokémon Go. The demo of that was by YouTuber Microwavesam who is in fact collaborating with Joseph Min on building some form of cross platform play between the two titles.

The former is currently in development for the HTC Vive, as see in the demo below, but no final word on target platforms has been releases as of yet. Joseph Min hopes to release a beta version of the title in May 2018 which will allow beta testers a chance to get hands on and offer valuable feedback. There is still plenty of way to be done, that is for sure, but the passion from both developers is easy to see in their current work.

In the most recent update posted on his channel, Joseph Min shows off the games lobby which will allow players to hang out in, explore and visit stores. It is in this lobby area as well that players will be able to purchase new cards and even channel other players there as well. Joseph Min also stresses that the title will not feature any microtransactions and all items will be purchasable with currency earned through playing the title.

VRFocus will be sure to bring you updates on Yu-Gi-Oh! VR in the future so stay tuned for more.
