It’s not every day you get contacted by a government about what they’re doing. In fact the only other instance I can recall was over the video about North Korea that we showed on Life I 360 last year, with the microlight over the capital city. We did receive a very sternly written email about that from a government representative – and no, no it wasn’t from the North Korean administration.
It was, astonishingly, from someone in some government department in South Korea. Who let it be known in very strong terms that they were not pleased with me, because… PyeongChang was written as Pyeongchang. Which technically isn’t wrong, because that is how the county is spelt, but you know, it was their country and they did seem frightfully angry about it.
Thankfully the message from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government about what they’re doing at the moment wasn’t far more pleasant and that’s what today’s item is all about. In order to encourage more foreign travellers and holidaymakers who are visiting Tokyo to venture off the beaten path and to some of the other regions around and near the city and sample what other experiences that Western Japan can provide tourists. More specifically the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
As such the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has turned to 360 degree video, creating a series of immersive experiences under the series name CHUGOKU+SHIKOKU x TOKYO, “a project to introduce the charms of Tokyo and the regions of Chugoku and Shikoku as a combination of must-see wonders”.
Experiences include a daytime walk from Asakusa (Tokyo) to Onomichi City (Hiroshima) and comparing some of the foods available, with a Teppanyaki grill in Tokyo and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki – Japanese layered pancakes for those unfamiliar with the name- elsewhere. There’s some very beautiful sights to be seen. I might very well check these out myself if a planned holiday to Japan later this year comes to fruition.
