Last week VRFocus reported on Cortopia Studios revealing new details about a couple of future updates for online PvP videogame Wands. As part of those details the developer stated plans to make Wands ‘more accessible’. Assumed to be wider headset support the team has now confirmed support for upcoming standalone head-mounted display (HMD) Oculus Go.
Oculus has yet to confirm a release date for the new headset, simply stating ‘Arriving in early 2018′. Nevertheless, Cortopia Studios’ CMO, John Milburn confirmed in an email to VRFocus that: “We’ll of course be available for Oculus Go as soon as it’s out, something that should make it quite interesting with a cross-platform online pvp VR game on this more “Portable” VR headset.”
This could be the first developer confirmed launch title for Oculus Go. While the Oculus website does have a montage of videogames and apps, featuring Bait!, Cloudlands: Mini Golf VR, Rush, Lands End, Netflix, Dead and Buried, and many more, the company has yet to specify if these are all launch titles – a recent image of the box circulated online seemingly indicating several.
Oculus Go was unveiled during Oculus Connect 4 (OC4) in November 2017. Having previously made Gear VR in collaboration with Samsung, Oculus Go will be the company’s first attempt at a standalone headset. With 32GB and 64GB models expected, it’ll be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor, have integrated audio, and a 3DoF controller, all for a starting price of $199 USD.
Cortopia Studios’ Wands has been out out for a while, first arriving on Samsung Gear VR in 2016 before being ported to Google Daydream and Oculus Rift last year, to offer cross-platform gameplay. You play a wizard who must fight others in arena based matches, whoever gets to most kills wins. As you progress and level up you’ll be able to unlock more powerful spells, thus enabling strategic tactical changes depending on how you like to play. The most recent update has added dynamic environments, meaning not only do you have to watch out for your opponent but also the world around you.
As further details are released regarding Wands and Oculus Go, VRFocus will let you know.
