So you’re looking to buy a new home, maybe your first, it’s a big step and an expensive one so you want to make sure it’s perfect for your needs. However if a house vacant, stripped of all its furnishings it can be difficult to visualise just exactly what a living room or a bedroom looks like with furniture. Which is why Sotheby’s International Realty has launched Curate, an augmented reality (AR) app to help with the process.
Built using Google’s ARCore and powered by roOomy, Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty allows consumers to visualize a house as their own before purchase, thereby curating the homebuying experience. The app features a curated selection of AR interior designs, ranging from modern living rooms to traditional dining rooms that provides the consumer with the opportunity to immediately swap among these styles, something that takes time and effort when physically staging.
“Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty solves visualization problems without making costly, time-intensive and cumbersome changes to the physical space,” said John Passerini, global vice president of interactive marketing, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC in a statement. “Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty also allows sales associates to connect with their clients beyond the point of purchase, and homebuyers can easily shop for new furniture and home décor on select retailers’ websites.”
Other features of the app also include screenshot capabilities, allowing viewers to capture and store the images of AR furniture sets placed within the visit for better recollection. And the virtual home furnishings can be clicked for more information about the product, including a link to exit the app and be directed to a retailer’s website. All furniture is shown to-scale and provides accurate room dimensions, ensuring furniture viewed in the app will be a fit, making purchasing and moving into a new home easier on new home buyers.
“Our goal at roOomy is to improve the homebuying process for sales associates and clients through our leading 3D, VR and AR technologies,” adds Pieter Aarts, co-founder and CEO of roOomy. “In leveraging our innovative technology, our new offering in partnership with the Sotheby’s International Realty brand enables sales associates to nimbly demonstrate the potential of a house by displaying it in multiple styles and functions with real, shoppable products to help homebuyers visualize a house as their future home.”
Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty is available now for download in the Google Play Store with an iOS version coming this Spring 2018. For the latest AR apps for Android, keep reading VRFocus.
