It’s time once again for the annual Webby Awards and the nominations are in for the events 22nd year. Just like last year there’s virtual reality (VR) specific categories, but there’s far more immersive content found littered around the other listings as well.
Organised by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), all nominees are eligible to win two of the internet industry’s most prestigious awards: The Webby Award, selected by the Academy, and The Webby People’s Voice Award, voted on by internet fans around the world.
Webby Nominees and Winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences; members include Lyft CEO Logan Green, Girls Who Code Founder Reshma Saujani, Gimlet Media CEO Alex Blumberg, Instagram’s Eva Chen, social entrepreneur Van Jones, Internet inventor Vint Cerf, and Playmatics CEO Margaret Wallace.
The Webby People’s Voice Award is where you come in. On the official website is where you can cast your vote on your favourite content, with a myriad of VR and augmented reality (AR) experiences to choose from. These include Capturing Everest, The Last Goodbye, The Virtual Orchestra, Night Sky, Surrealist VR, and A Trip to Mars with Buzz Aldrin.
There are a massive amount of categories to select from, with the Film & Video section alone featuring:
- 360-Video
- 360-Video: Branded
- Best Interaction Design
- Best Narrative Experience
- VR: Branded Cinematic or Pre-Rendered
- VR: Branded Interactive, Game or Real-Time
- VR: Cinematic or Pre-Rendered
- VR: Interactive, Game or Real-Time
Other sections include: Audi: VR Sandbox; Pedigree – The Pedigree Adoptable Mask; MLB Home Run Derby VR; Star Wars: Jedi Challenges; EARTH7. THE SPACE ROVER DESTINED FOR EARTH; Archer, P.I. App; Lone Echo / Echo Arena; and Sea Hero Quest VR, so it’s well worth looking through as many as possible.

Voting for the Webby People’s Voice Awards is open until Thursday, 19th April, 2018, with the winners announced on Tuesday, 24th April. When that happens VRFocus will let you know.
