The neon filled rhythm action videogame about swinging a sword around in virtual reality (VR) to slice boxes in time with the music, Beat Saber, has revealed it’s Early Access release date.
The title is being developed by Hyperbolic Magnetism, an indie studio based in the Czech Republic and is the teams first major VR title. Players step into the neon world of Beat Saber and make use of motion controllers to slice the beats as they come down towards you in the style of Guitar Hero. With visual cues as to which colour saber needs to be used on a box and which direction a player needs to slice. Beat Saber is designed to be a fast paced, engaging and highly enjoyable rhythm title for VR.
Hyperbolic Magnetism have revealed that the Early Access release of Beat Saber will be launching on 1st May, 2018 at 9:00 PDT (5pm GMT) and is going to cost around $20 (USD). The Early Access release will include all the mechanics for an “arcade mode” that can be picked up and played by anyone and is designed for both casual and competitive players. Plans for the full release include more songs, a single player mode with missions and challenges and even a level editor.
With handcrafted levels and music players can expect to experience a polished rhythm videogame within Beat Saber when it releases on 1st May, 2018. As each of the levels is handcrafted to fit with the tracks it means that players will have to release focus on the beta and keep in time as timing will be the key to success. This means that, unlike randomly generated content, there should be no off beat notes allowing for a continues rhythm to be used by the player during each level.
The Beat Saber Early Access will be supporting the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality (MR) headsets thanks to Steam VR. The title will also release onto the Oculus store as well should players want to pick it up from there instead of Steam.
VRFocus got hands on with Beat Saber at both Gamescom 2017 and Unite Europe 2017 along will also named it one of the best Oculus Rift videogames coming in 2018. With the Early Access release only days away it might be a good time to start practicing your sword swinging moves.
