Ever fancied yourself as a pool wizard, going down to a local pool hall and hustling a few bucks? While the fantasy may seem cool the reality relies on hours of practice and loads of skill. Luckily virtual reality (VR) developers have created a bunch of pool experience for you to practice on, the latest of which is Maxi Pool Masters VR by Gamesandapps.
Launched today via Steam Early Access for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Maxi Pool Masters VR is a single-player experience with three gameplay modes, Classic Pool, Loop and Throw Ball. While ‘Classic’ is your standard 8-Ball pool, developer Gamesandapps Has added Throw Ball – which is as literal as it sounds – where players dispense with the cue and just throw the damn ball.
Loop on the other hand changes the shape of the entire pool table in a circle for some inventive gameplay options. There’s also the small matter of size. You don’t exactly walk around the pool table in Maxi Pool Masters VR – like you would in Sports Bar VR for example – as you’re somewhat on the tiny size, playing on a pool table as big as a soccer field with huge balls.
Additionally, the studio has included several customisation options if you want to change the look of the table or the ball design.
VRFocus previewed the Early Access title yesterday, saying: “Maxi Pool Masters shows some promise, but there is still a great deal of work needs to be done before it can match or exceed better-known titles such as Sports Bar VR, though the ball throw mode is fun for wasting some time.”
As for its early access plans, the studio states: “The goal is to be able to get a stable version of the game for both singleplayer and multiplayer, this will depend on how many game modes will be implemented. For now we do not have a fixed date, we think that for January 2019 there will be a complete release.” For further updates on the title, keep reading VRFocus.
