Daily Magic Production, an indie videogame developer specialising in magic and fantasy titles has announced its first foray into virtual reality (VR), planning to release debut experience The Witching Tower VR for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR this summer.
Weaving puzzles and fantasy action adventure together, The Witching Tower VR challenges players to complete level after level of the labyrinthine tower, engaging in hand-to-hand combat with an assortment of undead enemies whilst trying to solve some diabolical puzzles that aimed to impede their progress.
As fantasy fans Daily Magic Production has of course created a whole backstory to The Witching Tower, explaining: “It’s been 6 years since the Undead’s war ended. During this period of time the Tower has invigorated itself with the fear and pain that masked the kingdom. Nightmares far beyond a mortals’ imagination plagued the land. Deities that you have yet to discover have chosen you to survive, but why? Your name is Anna and you hold secrets that may be the key into drastically changing the future, for better or for worse.”
The level of the tower has its own history and individual quirks, such as the recently revealed Torture Room. “Once upon a time this floor was residential, but after the Queen stole an ability, she remade it by creating a horrible hall where unimaginable tortures conducted on people associated with magic were being kept. Their prison cells surrounded the room where the Queen put her prisoners,” the team has revealed. “You’re going to meet miserable ghosts deviously wandering on the floor. Once upon a time they were magicians, wizards and enchanters but when Queen started her rule, she had her pawns torture them to death. Their souls slithering on the floor hoping that someone could free them.”
Daily Magic Production hasn’t given a firm release date for The Witching Tower VR on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or PlayStation VR, simply stating ‘Summer 2018’. As further details about the title emerge, VRFocus will keep you posted.
