Fans of the ever popular Space Channel 5 will be happy to know that the virtual reality (VR) title which was released in Japan last year is making its way to the Western audiences. Released as Space Channel 5 VR: Ukiuki Viewing Show in Japan, the new release will see the title changing to Space Channel 5 VR: Kind Funky News Flash!
Original released on the Dreamcast back in 1999 the title quickly became a cult classic. With its candy-colour design, accessible rhythm base gameplay and a catchy soundtrack, it had the makings of a landmark title from day one and saw a squeal released in 2002. A demo of the VR release was shown during the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2016 which was later released onto the HTC Vive in Japan last year. Now it has been confirmed that Western audiences will get to experience the return of Ulala for themselves.
Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will be taking advantage of the HTC Vive once again and allow for up to two players to experience the groovy beats in VR arcade locations. Currently there are no details on which locations these might and a home release, including console versions,are still to be determined. That said, Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will be at VRLA 2018 for visitors to come and get hands on with the funky title.
Players will need to use all their sick dancing moves in order to keep the music flowing and lead the heroin Ulala on a mission to protect earth against invading aliens. The more poses you strike, the more viewer ratings you get and with the more ratings, the better chance at victory you have.
Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! is being developed by Grounding Inc. an independent videogame development studio that make products for consoles, mobile devices, VR and even board game. With staff members having worked on titles such as the Panzer Dragoon series, Rez, Phantom Dust and Space Channel 5, they are the right studio for bring this classic back to masses.
