US developer Turbo Button has made a name for itself with some unique virtual reality (VR) content, such as SMS Racing and Floor Plan. A year ago the developer debuted on Google Daydream with Along Together, and this month the critically acclaimed VR videogame will launch on a multitude of new formats.
Along Together tasks the player with guiding a child through extraordinary worlds, solving puzzles within the environment to make new paths. Although the player controls the kid in addition to having your own direct actions, many of the scenarios have been designed as if Along Together were a co-operative videogame; the player can move objects via direct motion-control based input and subsequently command the child to move across the new paths created.
VRFocus delivered a review of Along Together prior to its Google Daydream debut, stating; “Along Together is a welcome addition to the Google Daydream’s software catalogue regardless of how you choose to define it. With a pleasing, chunky and colourful art style and a fine assortment of puzzles, Along Together is an easy recommendation for Google Daydream owners.”
Launching on PlayStation VR, Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR and via Steam for SteamVR compatible head-mounted displays (HMDs), the hope is that the translation will be handled well enough to allow Along Together to garner the same acclaim on a multitude of formats. Indeed, Turbo Button has put in the work necessary to do just that, confirming to VRFocus that Along Together has been updated to support 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) where available for more precise environmental navigation, in addition to offering new gameplay elements such as interaction with Rishu the Dog. Furthermore, Along Together uses 72hz mode on the Oculus Go and runs at a native 120hz on PlayStation VR.
Additionally, the PlayStation VR version of the videogame will be playable without PlayStation Move motion-controllers. A DualShock 4 control scheme will allow the videogame to be played with movement configuration similar to that of a more traditional platform videogame experience.
Along Together will launch for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR and SteamVR compatible HMDs on 29th May 2018. No specific price point for these new editions of the videogame has yet been revealed, but VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details from Turbo Button.
