Cave Digger is set in an alternative universe version of the Wild West. The player, in the role of the miner is guided by a mysterious voice on the radio from the saloon down into a dark mineshaft to mine the rich seams of ore.
The motives of the overseer speaking over the radio are unknown, and many secrets are waiting to be discovered by the player under the layers of rock, dirt and gemstones. Layers can equip themselves with tools and mine at the walls of the mine shift, collecting the treasure found in order to get money to pay for better equipment that will, in turn, allow the player to dig deeper.
For players who collect enough money, high-tech tools such as a vein scanner, circular saw or high-speed drill become available to allow the discovery or bigger gemstones, and deeper mysteries tht can be uncovered.
The developers are encouraging players to invite over friends for a social experience, saying that the rounds are short, enabling for a quick switch of players in between rounds. VRKiwi have even suggested that the title could be suitable for VR arcades as well as home VR set-ups.
