The WipeOut Omega Collection finally got a PlayStation VR mode earlier this year and made many fans of the series very excited. Feeling the high-speed rush of future ships battling it out for first place all in virtual reality (VR) was a dream come to. Before the release of the mode however, PlayStation VR was home to a number of other titles that looked to fill the void that was left by the lack of VR WipeOut.
Radial-G : Racing Revolved was one such title and has been a hugely popular racing title thanks to its high speed VR races featuring creative tracks and brilliantly designed ships. Players take control of the latest in futuristic race craft and teat up the tracks in anti-gravity, high speed races and battles with up to fifteen other players or AI opponents. The immersive title gives players plenty of options when it comes to winning a race be it with speed and skill or deadly weapons, there is a play-style for everyone.
The developers at Tammeka Games worked hard to ensure that the title lived up to the standard that other videogame’s in the genre had set and aimed to knock them out of the park. With polished and refined gameplay systems, impressive visuals and the thumping EMD soundtrack to match, Radial-G : Racing Revolved made sure everyone knew it was the VR WipeOut before that became a reality.
With the second anniversary of the PlayStation VR coming up in a few weeks as well it never hurts to have a look down memory lane and see how far the headset as come, along with the titles released for it. Since Radial-G : Racing Revolved released on the platform back in 2017 the title has continued to be a well received title, filling that gap that PlayStation players wanted so much. Even now it is worth revisiting and becoming immersed in the fast pasted experience. It even went on to release on Google’s Daydream platform as well.
VRFocus’ Editor Kevin Joyce previewed Radial-G : Racing Revolved saying: “Radial-G‘s simple early demo alluded to the tense thrill ride that the videogame has now become. Evolution from this point requires more: more tracks, more vehicles, more gameplay modes and more spectacular, varied background effects. All of this, VRFocus is confident that Tammeka Games can not only achieve but are most likely already working on. Expectations, then, are sure to increase. Radial-G is fast and fun, and in VR it’s standing tall amongst many hopefuls that simply can’t match it’s visual clout. There’s still a long road to go for Tammeka Games, but investing in Radial-G at this early stage is a commitment that’s more than likely to prove bountiful in the long run.”
Radial-G : Racing Revolved is available now on PlayStation VR and also released on Steam back in March 2018, compatible with the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality. The title is sure to satisfy anyone looking for a fast paced racing experience that is one par with that of the WipeOut series.
