One of the advantages of virtual reality (VR) is that it allows users to explore locations they might never otherwise be able to travel to. VR film platform Realities allows for exactly that, with a library of VR footage of striking real world locations. That library of content has now been expanded with the addition of the Terres d’Exploration DLC.
Terres d’Exploration, also known as Uncharted Canada follows two young adventurers who have set out to explore some of the most impressive and remote areas of Canada by using a combination of outdoor skills and scientific knowledge.
The downloadable content comprises a series of documentary TV episodes which have been brought into VR using high-end photogrammetry. Users can follow the adventurers to the original locations and discover several places from each episode of Season 2.
Users will be able to explore the vast Canadian wilderness at their own pace, accompanied by narration from one of the explorers along with video clips which will provide further information, context and faces to complement what has been shown on TV.
Season 2 of the documentary series began airing on 10th April, 2018 on TV5 in Canada, and available through the rest of the world online. The locations for each episode will be released alongside the TV series, which the Caves of Vancouver Island having been released on 10th April and the other episodes following in subsequent weeks. Once users have downloaded the DLC, they will automatically receive updates each week to go alongside the TV series.
Users will need to download the Realities app from Steam in order to view the Terres d’Exploration, which is available for free, compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Users will also be able to explore the other content available on the Realities platform.
