We’ve not long had a trip back in time to a galaxy far, far away on Life In 360° as we visited the world of Star Wars on May the 4th – for the rather obvious reason that it was Star Wars Day. Whilst the video featured on Life In 360° that day was a fan-made video featuring Darth Vader hunting down some Jedi and slaying them – mostly for bad acting I think – the same day brought us something in 360 degrees that was not on the dark side – but rather on the official side.
By the time this goes out on the site, the premiere for Solo: A Star Wars Story, the next Anthology film made for the franchise since its purchase by Disney and the second after 2016’s Rogue One, will have already happened. But the general release, at least in the U.S. is still near the end of the month. As featured on the Star Wars YouTube channel, the fate of one of the most iconic parts of the Star Wars saga is in the balance – The Millennium Falcon. As we’ve all known since the second film in the saga, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, the Falcon wasn’t always the property of Han Solo. Having been won in a high-stakes game of gambling some time back – and from his rival and friend Lando Calrissian.
“In the Star Wars universe, you may have heard about the infamous moment where Han Solo and Lando Calrissian first meet and ultimately face-off for the legendary Millennium Falcon. With Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the help of ILM, this iconic moment was captured in full 360º, putting you the viewer at the centre of it all. Watch it all unfold with Han, Lando, and some new and old friends. This experience is a truly never-before-seen event. Solo: A Star Wars Story 360 was created in association with ILMxLAB.”
This marks the second immersive tech item produced for the film with the first being an augmented reality (AR) item made in partnership with Renault. You can see the clip from the film below – don’t let the first thirty or so seconds fool you incidentally. You’ll get very immersed soon enough. VRFocus will be back later this week with another 360 degree video.
