It turns out that releasing on multiple platforms is important as Oskar Burman, CEO at Fast Travel Games, revealed in a tweet about the sales of the popular virtual reality (VR) title Apex Construct. The Tweet, which was posted earlier this week reveals the number of percent of sales for the title across the different platforms as measured by units sold and the results are interesting to see.
Multiplatform matters for VR devs. Out of all Apex Construct sales, 46% is on PSVR, 30% is on the Oculus Store while 24% is on Steam. #gamedev #vrdev

For starters, Burman notes that 46% of the sales for Apex Construct were sold on the PlayStation VR platform. With the title having it’s debut release on the platform back in February of this year, before then releasing onto PC later in March. It is no surprise that the percent of units sold on PlayStation VR would be the larger number. Burman adds that 30% of sales were from the Oculus Store with another 24% being from Steam.
Though the differences between the Oculus Store and Steam store is only 6% it is an interesting difference that could be linked to the way the discoverability of the store fronts work. There is no way to know for sure though with the information Burman provided but it would be a good insight into the market, if that data was available. Though the percent of each store front are respective of units sold, Burman did not provide the actual sales numbers.
Since the release of Apex Construct, the title has continued to capture the attention of players across the world thanks to its captivating and immersive gameplay. VRFocus’ Staff Writer Rebecca Hills-Duty reviewed Apex Construct saying: “Despite some minor gripes, its clear that Apex Construct represents the way forward for VR videogames, an absorbing, intriguing experience that draws you in with a rich world complete with its own history and mysteries to be unravelled as well as a fluid combat system. Apex Construct is the standard by which future VR titles will be judged, and an indicator that VR has stepped up its game.”
The team at Fast Travel Games have continues to work on the title having even run some experiments of bring the title to mobile and there is even a physical release planned for later this year.
